Asylum Chapel
Peckham, South London
2020

BRIEF

The ‘Lost Child Project’ works with underpriveledged, marginilised children and children with learning difficulties - so does COVO connecting voices - a charity based next to the Asylum Chapel, and two more institutions a short walk away from the site, as well as a successful drama school and the very highly acclaimed University of the Arts; Goldsmiths.

This project is an opportunity to connect multiple teams with the same vision; to connect people who want to help others, and who share an appreciation of self expression through theatre.

This new project would provide more jobs for social workers and teachers, whether they specialise in special needs education or the performing arts, working at any of the mentioned surrounding sites. The site can also be used to accommodate work experience for young adults who wish to teach.

The cafe space and office space will make this build more than just a theatre, and the archive space for David Glass Ensemble can be used by all as a form of education or entertainment.

The Asylum Chapel was named so after the words meaning of sactuary. This space has the opportunity to offer refuge; a space of belonging and community.
